Inside-out

The challenge of this project was to create a character that ultimately would be turned into a plush/Ugly doll. Taking the flat “pancake” illustration of the character and illustrating onto a Munny or Dunny doll template was the second task of this challenge. Once illustrated as a Munny or Dunny doll, designer must then “cut open” half of the character’s body and reveal the skeleton structure just like artist Jason Freeny does but instead only as an illustration, not a sculpture. Gus is a modern day hipster created by Michael Mohammad. He loves skateboarding in his chonies around town so all the ladies can see his tattoos and be in awe of his magical man bun. Gus is a perfect example of what today’s generation depicts as a modern-day hipster.

STEP-BY-STEP:

1. Rough sketches drawn of the character with pencil and paper.

2. Clean sketches (front and back) drawn to scale with dimensions and sew allowance lines.

3. Vector illustration of character onto Munny or Dunny doll template (front and back).

4. Vector illustration (Jason Freeny inspiration) depicting what the interior skeleton structure of character would look like.
